SUMMARY:Way Down Wanderers w/ Murray Lee & TSoH and Boris Pelekh | Redstone Room
DESCRIPTION:The Way Down Wanderers alongside Murray Lee & the Sons of Hades and Boris Pelekh of Gogol Bordello in the Redstone Room on April 27th.\n\nThe Way Down Wanderers alongside Murray Lee & the Sons of Hades and Boris Pelekh of Gogol Bordello in the Redstone Room on April 27th. \nDoors: 7pm / Show: 8pm \nTickets: $15 adv / $18 day of show \nOpening Act: Murray Lee and the Sons of Hades \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: https://thewaydownwanderers.com/ \nGenre: Roots-Pop \n \nThe Way Down Wanderers sing like angels but write songs with guts that are unmistakably earthbound: a soon-to-be dad\, excited but scared\, fighting for self-growth; someone recovering from alcohol dependency\, devoted to healing but with a confession to make––there are no fairytales here. And yet\, the music begs an unapologetically Pollyanna question\, like a big-hearted dare: Can a song help save you? \n“I think when we strive to be the best versions of ourselves\, and to accept other people that we don’t understand\, that all works toward creating a culture we strive for\,” says Collin Krause\, one of The Way Down Wanderers’ two lead songwriters and vocalists. “Part of that process really is working on yourself––and self-forgiveness. At the end of the day\, we’re not going to be perfect. The idea is to recognize that\, and to try to forgive yourself if you can––and to try to move on and make progress.” \n“Right\,” adds Austin Krause-Thompson\, the band’s other frontman and core writer. “And this record does lend itself to some of those messages.” \nAustin and Collin are discussing More Like Tomorrow\, the Way Down Wanderers’ third full-length release. The project is the anticipated follow-up to their 2019 breakthrough album Illusions\, which earned praise from Rolling Stone Country\, No Depression\, Relix\, and more. The band’s gorgeous harmonies and string-band virtuosity still anchor the new album\, but the sonic borders the Way Down Wanderers once flirted with crossing have been beautifully breached. Their lyricism has also evolved\, giving way to true stories that cut deep. “I think more so on this record than ever\, the songs are just more direct\, with acute meanings in our own situations\,” says Austin. “Each’s song’s story is less broad. I think\, at least for me\, writing is definitely growing more and more personal.” \nWith More Like Tomorrow\, the five-piece band from Peoria\, Illinois\, has emerged not just as quirky bluegrass kids with a habit of experimentation\, but as confident purveyors of some of the most sophisticated roots-pop anywhere. \n“I love it when the song itself dictates the sonic arrangement––the pop sensibilities or Americana we can throw in there\,” Collin says. “I think just allowing the song to exist as its own entity is really important.” \nEvery song on More Like Tomorrow stands alone but works with the group to achieve something bigger––much like the Way Down Wanderers themselves. Collin and Austin met as teenagers––at 15 and 19\, respectively. Multi-instrumentalist Austin was drumming in a rock band at the time\, while Collin was playing mandolin and fiddle in a bluegrass-leaning folk outfit. The two felt like brothers fast. A few years later\, Austin married Collin’s older sister\, making the two men who met and connected as boys actual family. \nTo form the Way Down Wanderers\, Collin and Austin welcomed jazz percussionist John Merikoski\, classical upright bassist John Williams\, and banjo player Travis Kowalsky. The quintet’s years on the road have built a devoted grassroots following\, which the band cherishes. Collin points to the connection with audiences as a key cultivator of their latest songwriting. “Having a group that listens and absorbs your music who you can identify with as a community rather than just fans opens us up as writers to feel more comfortable about openly discussing personal things that we’ve been through in a song\,” he says. \nAlbum opener “Codeine\, Rest\, & Loneliness” is a stunning example of what the Way Down Wanderers can do with that comfort. Co-written by Collin and Austin\, the song is a breathtaking vocal and instrumental showcase\, filled with soaring harmonies\, intimate solos\, and dizzying strings. Part mournful cry\, part joyful tribute\, “Codeine\, Rest\, & Loneliness” was inspired by the loss of two friends who died young. Both of the writers count the song as their favorite on the record. \nWith piano-pounding\, jam-band swagger and a message of interconnectivity and hope\, “The Wire” is a singalong just waiting to be shouted back to the stage. Leaning into a scratchy pop-train beat\, “Hard Times” points to the rejuvenation made possible in the trenches of tough stuff. With poignant guitar tone that rings out like a bell and tender lead vocals\, “Dark Marks” rests easily and gratefully in the comfort of home and love. \nStark bass kicks off “Forever\,” a moving meditation on the changes demanded after becoming a parent. “My wife and I recently had a son\, and it’s been absolutely amazing\, but it’s definitely brought about some of the more stressful situations we’ve been through\,” Austin says. “Having kids just shows you parts of yourself that you need to fix. It really shows you what you need to do to be the best person you can be––more so than anything else I’ve found.” Bouncing “Two Parts One Heart” captures fatherhood’s wonder and joy in line after witty line. \nA feat of melodic funk\, “Hiding” is a warm embrace of self\, from expression to acceptance. Full of claps and stomps\, jaunty album closer “Everything’s Made of Sand” peddles kindness for kindness’ sake rather than to please a higher power\, and luxuriating in transience instead of fearing it. \nHighlights “Parkside Drive” and “Love is My Gospel” carry the record’s overarching messages of self-accountability and love in different ways. Heart-heavy but determined\, “Parkside Drive” relies on vulnerable vocals that swell into a chorus of powerful repetition. Collin wrote the song\, a complex dual narrative inspired by true stories. As he documents his own recovery from alcohol dependency\, Collin also memorializes a neighbor who sometimes wanted a little more time than Collin wanted to give. Suffering in silence\, the neighbor ultimately took his own life. Collin pays tribute\, searches for strength\, absolves himself\, and commits to a better standard in less than three mesmerizing minutes. “I guess I felt a personal responsibility to write the song\, and it was a hard song to write. It’s a really emotional song to perform\,” he says. “I think it’s some of the most vulnerable lyrics I’ve ever written. I also think it’s crucial to my recovery process. It’s affected the way I treat people or even think of strangers.” \nWarm and full\, “Love is My Gospel” balances gratitude for love and partnership with the knowledge that everyone doesn’t have it. Praise for love as a guide rolls into musings on inequality and privilege. “I have this idea as a writer that a song doesn’t have to follow one specific message\,” Collin says. “I was just realizing how fortunate I am in my life to have a partner I love so much\, but then\, I was thinking simultaneously about how there is a lot of sorrow in the world. Just being a white person in America––my privilege could be the cause of someone else’s deprivation. That’s something I try to be aware of.” The messages emerge as two sides of the same coin: By trusting love\, we are open to empathy––which means we must hold space for sorrow and other’s experiences. The song is masterpiece of writing and performance. \nWorking in that sweet spot where self-acceptance and rejection of the status-quo collide\, the Way Down Wanderers hope listeners can find their own personal applications and understandings of the new songs. “Connection\, release\, relatability––maybe hope\, or confidence\, or reassurance\,” Austin says. “I hope that people kind of weave these messages into their lives in their own positive way.” \n \nAll tickets are general admission. Local songwriters are paired up with top notch QC musicians to act as their own personal backing band\, complete with all the fun and community that the Quad Cities as come to know as an All Sweat Productions show. \nThis month’s songwriters are: \nSoultru \nSoultru is a soul acoustic artist based in Davenport\, Iowa\, a part of the Quad Cities\, Iowa/Illinois. He has signed to Kansas City label The Record Machine. They sometimes travel with a full band and as a duo or solo (Terrance Banks). \nDrawing influence from gospel music artists like Fred Hammond and Smokie Norful. While later finding artists such as Gavin Degraw\, Anthony Hamilton\, John Legend\, and\, most recently\, Allen Stone. \nThey have had the pleasure of opening for artists such as Kweku Collins\, Magic City Hippies\, Michigan Rattlers\, Neil Hilborn\, Ceschi Ramos\, Kaleb Mitchell\, and shared The Alder Theatre stage with Amythyst Kiah in June 2021. \nSoultru ended 2021 strong playing essential festivals such as Alternating Currents in the Quad Cities\, added to the Barrel and Flow Fest in Pittsburgh\, PA\, and Lincoln Calling in Lincoln\, NE. \n—- \nFrankie Fontagne \nBorn in the small mid-west town of Monmouth\, IL\, Frankie Fontagne began her career early\, as most soul singer/performers did\, singing in the church choir. It was here that her natural ability was given the roots that would later flower into its current soulful state. Not only did Ms. Fontagne sing in the church choir\, but she became a student of music. From 1982-1993\, Ms Fontagne became a student of the Monmouth\, Warren County music program\, headed by Dr. Edward Sheckler. It was there that she flourished as an awarding winning percussionist. Those years were the beginning of Ms. Fontagne’s proving ground. \nRealizing that her hometown didn’t provide the opportunities she needed\, Frankie packed up and headed west to California where she began to ride the “circuit” dabbling in gospel and doing hooks for various west coast rap groups throughout the 90’s. Though not very lucrative\, these escapades paid off in the form of studio experience as well as chances to arrange and produce. \n—- \nZay \nBorn in Glendale\, California\, but makes his home in Davenport\, Iowa; Zay has always had a passion for music. At the young age of 14\, Zay started producing 6 track beats for fun\, and would occasionally write short stories and poems. Little did he know this would build a strong foundation for his music career in the years to come. He’s amassed over 15 years as a professional hip-hop dancer/choreographer\, was a featured dancer on B.E.T’s 106th & Park -Wild Out Wednesday\, and has done shows with Chris Brown\, Soulja Boy & T-Pain.. Zay is not only at the forefront of entertainment as an up & coming Artist & DJ\, but also has an AA and BS in Electronic Engineering. Producing/Writing/DJ’ing & Performing is his passion and you will definitely hear it in his new music. \n \nDoors: 6:30pm / Show: 7pm \nTickets: $10 \n \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:Terrance Simien & The Zydeco Experience
DESCRIPTION:Two-time Grammy Award winning Terrance Simien at the River Music Experience on April 16th!\n\n\nFor 40 years\, two- time GRAMMY award winning artist Terrance Simien and 8th generation Louisiana Creole\, has been shattering the myths about what his indigenous Zydeco roots music is – and is not. Leading his Zydeco Experience bandmates – long time members Danny Williams\, keyboards and Stan Chambers\, bass with Lance Ellis\, sax; Ian Molinaro – Thompson\, drums\, and our newest member\, Revon Andrews on trombone. \nSimien has become one of the most respected and accomplished artists in American roots music today. He and his band mates have performed over 9000 concerts\, toured millions of miles to over 45 countries during their eventful career. \nIn 2021 Simien led the effort to have Allen Toussaint’s “Southern Nights” become the first Louisiana state song ever written by an African American artist/composer. A very big deal! Simien was also the recipient of the prestigious Foundation for Louisiana Worldmakers unrestricted grant with priority to BIPOC artists. He was one of 30 awarded out of 360 applications\, and the only from his part of the state and genre. Finally\, the zydeco exhibit we helped curate\, went live on MLK Day this year at the $60 million National Museum of African American Music in Nashville\, TN – ironically\, right across the street from The Ryman where few African Americans have performed. \n2020 is not the most remarkable year in our lives and careers\, but finishing a studio album was no small feat during a pandemic – so\, we’ll take it! \n2019 marked Simien’s 34th consecutive New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival – the gold standard for diversity in American roots music. \n2014 proved to be another memorable year when Simien & his collaborators from the Zydeco Experience band were honored with their second GRAMMY award in Los Angeles on January 26\, 2014 at the Nokia Theatre. \n2012 found Simien & his band mates seen performing their original song “Dance Everyday” in the Warner Brothers film “The Lucky One” starring Zac Efron and Blythe Danner\, and directed by Oscar nominated director Scott Hicks. Simien’s version of zydeco standard “Uncle Bud” was also used in the film. \n2009 signaled the release of Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog”\, set in the city of New Orleans and featured their first black princess. Alas\, history was made with that one move! Simien is the featured guest artist on “Gonna Take You There”\, a zydeco flavored song penned by Randy Newman. Simien recorded the song with Newman in Los Angeles in late 2007 and it has became a favorite track for children everywhere! Simien’s student audiences all over the country sing along with him when he & his band mates perform it during their school time concerts. History was also made again\, in a very big way for this genre – as it was the first time Disney featured zydeco music in a film! As if that was not enough – the word zydeco was also spoken in the movie by one of the characters and has introduced generations of young children and families to this black American roots music. And because of this film\, millions have heard zydeco for the very first time! We are forever grateful to John Lasseter and the team at Disney for this rare opportunity to have zydeco immortalized in a Disney film. \nIn 2005 Simien led HBO producers deep into Creole country for another high visible opportunity for the genre and he introduced them to the prodigious 5 year old zydeco talent\, Guyland Leday. This gifted young musician was featured in the HBO doc “The Music in Me: Children’s Recitals from Classical to Latin\, Jazz to Zydeco. This was a huge victory for his state\, genre and Creole culture. It was also this year that they became the first zydeco artists to perform in Cuba for the U.S\, State Department. In 2006\, Carnegie Hall presented them in Mali\, West Africa as part of their unique Global Encounters program. There have been multiple U.S. State Department tours to North Africa\, Ukraine\, Russia\, Dominican Republic\, Paraguay – all as part of the U.S Cultural Diplomacy efforts around the globe that began in 1955. \nHowever\, it was 2008 that proved to be one of the most memorable years of their eventful career when they were honored with their first GRAMMY™ award and the first in zydeco since Rockin Sidney Simien received his in 1985. They also performed that day at The 50th GRAMMY™ Awards pre-Tel ceremony. This was also the culmination of 7 years of hard work to establish a new Grammy category for best Zydeco or Cajun Music Album that Simien and his wife/business partner\, Cynthia led to success. They effectively changed the vocabulary of the Recording Academy and the trajectory of the history for both genres. Because of their efforts that began in 2001\, to connect their region with the GRAMMY awards after decades with little or no recognition in the awards\, since 2008 over 100 Cajun & zydeco artists have garnered Grammy noms and awards. Their hard work embodies an inclusive leadership style and artist advocacy for the greater good of their broader music community\, city (Lafayette & Opelousas) and state of Louisiana. This is also now an important part of Southern roots music history\, African American music history and the Americana Music Triangle. \nSimien was born in 1965 (appropriately) into the hippie folk and soul music era that still intrigues him today. He grew artistically being influenced and inspired by all of the music from that period. He was as influenced by Dylan and Simon and Garfunkel as he was by Sam Cooke and the Commodores. Since his family is documented in history books as one of the first Creole families to settle St. Landry Parish\, his musical roots are firmly planted alongside the great zydeco pioneers like Chenier\, Delafose\, Chavis\, Ardoin and that other Simien\, Rockin Sidney\, to name a few. He counts himself one of the fortunate few who hail from a generation with a direct link to these artists\, some of whom mentored him as an emerging talent. He has assumed that same role to a new generation of young Zydeco hotshots because he understands how critical mentoring is to the success of his indigenous music that has become synonymous with the cultural identity of Louisiana and an important part of the musical landscape of this country. \nIn 1983 at the young age of 18\, Simien began touring professionally and by 20 he was sharing the stage with Fats Domino and Sarah Vaughn at the Bern Jazz Festival. His career exploded after that and Terrance remains a pivotal part of Zydeco music history. In the early 1980’s there were only 2 emerging bands touring nationally; the young Terrance and The Sam Brothers were the only artists reaching a younger audience with their indigenous roots music. Simien was also vital to the “renaissance” of a genre that was becoming extinct with the passing of each pioneer starting with Clifton Chenier in 1987. By the end of the 1990’s\, all of the other influential pioneers had departed. This placed Terrance at the forefront of an exciting period of growth and popularity for this black roots music born in the rural\, French speaking Creole communities of South Louisiana. Some might call him the OG of zydeco! We’re def down with that. \nSimien is blessed with an extraordinary talent and charisma that expresses our deepest human emotions through the original instrument: The Voice. He takes his audiences on a multicultural tour of the world as the many countries he’s visited while on tour have informed his musical language. He creates a hypnotic blend of New Orleans funk-reggae-flavored-world-blues-American zydeco roots music that beckons you to your feet and into the groove. He has found an authentic and artful way to deliver his roots music as a relevant\, evolving artist who is clearly rooted in Creole music traditions. Well known for his legendary live performances\, Simien also helped change the vocabulary for his genre by introducing complex vocal harmonies\, diverse repertoire and carefully crafted high quality recordings. \nTerrance and his loyal and skilled band mates\, the Zydeco Experience\, have shared studio & stage with Robert Palmer\, Stevie Wonder\, Los Lobos\, Taj Mahal\, Dr. John\, the Meters\, Alan Toussaint\, Paul Simon and Dave Matthews Band to name a few. Their music has been featured in TV commercials and a dozen or more films\, including the blockbuster “The Big Easy” which changed the game for Louisiana music in the late 80’s. Their music has been heard on NPR syndicated radio shows like World Café\, American Routes\, E-town & House of Blues Radio Hour. Rolling Stone\, Billboard\, and other notable music industry publications\, as well as major daily newspapers have praised his recordings. His extensive discography dates back to vinyl 45’s. In 1991 he was signed to rock label Restless Records by A&R rep Ron Goudie who brought the band Poison to the same label group. \nSimien’s groundbreaking Creole for Kidz & The History of Zydeco for student\, youth and family audiences has reached nearly 500\,000 since its debut in 2000. This dynamic program is presented at performing art centers\, schools and festivals. Simien is helping build a more culturally literate young performing arts patron who is more knowledgeable about zydeco roots music because of his program. Simien has received countless awards\, grants and recognition for his work and artistic contributions as a respected Cultural Ambassador for his state and country. \n \nDoors: 6:30pm / Show: 7:30pm \nTickets: $15 adv / $18 day of show \nOpening Act: None \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: www.terrancesimien.com \nGenre: Zydeco \n \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:Avey Grouws Band & Lauren Anderson
DESCRIPTION:Avey Grouws Band and Lauren Anderson in the Redstone Room on April 15th!\n\n\nAvey Grouws Band met at a blues jam on the Iowa side of the Quad Cities along the Mississippi River\, and have since put their Quad Cities sound into the world with the release of their debut album ‘The Devil May Care’ in March of 2020. The album hit #10 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart\, #24 for 2020 on the Roots Music Report Top Contemporary Blues Album Chart\, “Rise Up” was named top song of 2020 in the Ben Vee Roadhouse 66 top songs of 2020\, “Come and Get This Love” won top honors in the Unsigned Only Songwriting Competition and in the International Songwriting Competition\, Avey Grouws band was nominated for the 2020 BBMAs for Debut Album New Artist and was nominated for 4 awards in the 2021 Independent Blues Awards\, including Best New Artist\, Best New Artist Album. \nHot on the heels of their Billboard charting album\, ‘The Devil May Care’\, AGB is released their sophomore album ‘Tell Tale Heart’ September 24\, 2021. Recorded in Nashville at East Iris Studios and The Purple House (Leiper’s Fork\, TN) with Grammy-winning engineer/producer Casey Wasner at the helm. Featuring 10 original songs\, ‘Tell Tale Heart’’s music (described by Wasner as “rock and roll blues soul”) demonstrates the label-defying band’s command of a wide swath of American roots music – – including blues\, classic rock\, country\, R&B\, funk\, introspective balladry and unbridled rock and roll. \n \nLauren Anderson\, a soulful rocker originally from Chicago\, has had a passion for singing throughout her entire life. Growing up in a household that was rich in music\, her influences were widely varied from artists such as Susan Tedeschi\, Bonnie Raitt\, The Pointer Sisters\, Eva Cassidy\, Etta James\, Joss Stone\, Jason Mraz\, Black Eyed Peas\, Christina Aguilera\, and many more. \nDespite these modern musical influences\, Lauren was classically trained throughout most of her early life. She began classical piano lessons at the age of 8\, was an active member of several choirs and began taking classical voice lessons when she began high school. She eventually took her love of singing to the Quad Cities and obtained a bachelors degree in music with an emphasis on voice at Augustana College. Initially she planned on becoming an opera singer\, but quickly realized that rock and soul music were more her style. \nHaving listened to those around her\, telling her that music and the arts were difficult fields to have a career in\, Lauren followed the safe path in life\, making sure she had a “back-up” plan while working on her music and performing. This lead her to The University of Kansas to complete her masters degree in music therapy. She worked for several years as a music therapist on a pediatric unit and at a school for at-risk youth in Kansas City. However\, even with a steady job she found that passions don’t die easily\, and despite her love of working as a music therapist\, she was ready to take on the challenge of making music performance her career. \nAfter officially completing her masters in 2012\, Lauren began performing solo gigs around the greater Kansas City area and eventually put together a full band. She released her first official EP\, “Do & Hope”\, in August 2014. Fittingly\, this EP was named after the unofficial motto of Lauren’s mother’s side of the family\, who often remarked\, “Just do it and hope it turns out okay.” \nLauren released her first\, full-length CD titled\, “Truly Me” in August 2015. And two singles\, recorded in the legendary Ocean Way Nashville Studios\, in 2016. Shortly after these releases she finally made the leap into becoming a full-time musician and moved to Nashville in February 2017. \n \nDoors: 7pm / Show: 7:30pm \nTickets: $12 adv / $15 day of show \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: www.aveygrouwsband.com | www.laurenandersonmusic.com \nGenre: Blues \n \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:My Posse In Effect - A Beastie Boys Tribute
DESCRIPTION:Beastie Boys tribute act\, My Posse In Effect\, returns to the River Music Experience on April 8th!\n\n\nThis is the premier Beastie Boys tribute act hands down. Taking you through decades of their unforgettable hits\, this seven-piece live band replicates the authentic Beastie Boys experience with three MCs\, a world-class DJ\, and visuals from their iconic video collection. \nThe crowds get to relive carefree times and always sing along\, word for word\, in a party atmosphere. Fans of My Posse in Effect are dedicated and cross multiple state lines just to see them perform and with good reason. \n“It’s safe to say that My Posse in Effect forgoes the clone treatment found in other cover bands to deliver a hard-hitting set that’s backed by the rip of live instruments. DJ Mahf helps weave drums\, guitars and a stage full of voices into a pitch-perfect presentation that does for the Beastie Boys what El Monstero does for Pink Floyd.” – Riverfront Times – (link) \n“Most exciting\, though\, is a performance by My Posse in Effect\, a St. Louis-based Beastie Boys tribute act. The sad fact is that you’re never going to get a chance to see the actual Beastie Boys again — at least not with longtime leader MCA\, who passed away due to cancer in 2012. A tribute act is the best you are going to get\, and this is one that can more than ably do the job.” – Riverfront Times \n \nDoors: 8pm / Show: 9pm \nTickets: $15 adv / $18 day of show \nOpening Act: None \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: https://myposseineffect.com \nGenre: Hip-Hop \n \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:Zoso - The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience
DESCRIPTION:Zoso formed in 1995 to perform the most accurate and captivating Led Zeppelin live show since the real thing!\n\n\nZoso – The Ultimate Led Zeppelin Experience formed in 1995 to perform the most accurate and captivating Led Zeppelin live show since the real thing. For Zoso\, it’s much more than just being a tribute. It’s about touching a golden era in music. Zoso embodies Page\, Plant\, Bonham and Jones in their spirit\, tightly-wound talent and authenticity. \nEach band member has been carefully selected to portray both the appearance and playing styles of their Led Zeppelin counterparts. In eighteen successful years of touring\, they have perfected their art. As one of the longest tenured Zeppelin tributes\, Zoso’s 2400 live shows around the world\, including slots at major festivals such as Bonnaroo and Rib America Fest\, have established them as the most traveled and successful band in the market. \nZoso’s live shows are not about simply playing the right notes\, they are about aura and feeling\, harkening back to the unique atmosphere Led Zeppelin created. It’s in the way they play: Each band member’s mastery of authentic vintage instruments coupled with spot-on vocals\, guitar\, bass\, drums\, and keyboards\, their compelling stage persona and distinct Led Zeppelin sound\, with astounding visual imagery recreates the music\, magic\, and mystery of a Zeppelin concert. The impact is so powerful that band members constantly hear from young rockers that they were the catalyst behind turning them into new\, die-hard Zeppelin fans. \nTheir passion\, musical ability\, showmanship and precise attention to detail earned them critical acclaim\, name recognition and a loyal national following. The Los Angeles Times hailed the group as being “head and shoulders above all other Zeppelin tributes\,” and the Chicago Sun-Times declared Zoso is “the closest to the original of any tribute.” \nIf you missed Led Zeppelin live in the 70’s or are looking to relive the “Hammer of the Gods” phenomenon\, you must experience what the St. Petersburg Times calls “the most exacting of the Zeppelin tribute bands in existence.” \nZoso is: Matt Jernigan-Robert Plant; John McDaniel-Jimmy Page; Adam Sandling-John Paul Jones; Bevan Davies-John Bonham \nDoors: 7pm / Show: 8pm \nOpening Act: None \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: http://www.zosoontour.com \nGenre: Rock \n \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:TODD SNIDER: Pickin’. Grinnin’. Tellin’ Stories. Takin’ Requests tour
DESCRIPTION:TODD SNIDER: Pickin’. Grinnin’. Tellin’ Stories. Takin’ Requests tour at the River Music Experience on March 21st!\n\n\nYou don’t often hear about an artist reinventing their sound twenty albums into a celebrated career. But for Todd Snider\, his latest release\, First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder (2021)\, isn’t so much a sudden change in direction as an arrival after years of searching. \nSince debuting in 1994\, Snider has gone through his own incarnations. His first single “Talking Seattle Blues” was a head fake that might’ve pointed to goofy novelty songs. \nBut he quickly showed that his artistic quiver was much deeper and more interesting. A storyteller who works a similar creative soil to John Prine and Shel Silverstein\, Snider’s best songs are both sad and funny\, political and entertaining\, and always written with a poet’s eye and a stand-up comedian’s sensibility about the follies of human condition. \nWhile he’s made twenty fine albums\, it’s on stage where Snider is even more potent\, with between-song banter that weaves subtle emotional threads through his sets. A road dog who loves the road\, Snider has toured with Emmylou Harris\, John Prine\, Jimmy Buffett\, and appeared at festivals like Farm Aid\, Newport Folk Fest\, Lockn’ and Telluride Bluegrass Festival. \nSnider was born in Portland\, Oregon\, and lived there until his family moved to Houston\, Texas. When he was 15\, he ran away from home with a friend and went back to Portland. After high school\, he moved to Santa Rosa\, California\, to be a harmonica player. Then his brother\, who lived in Austin\, Texas\, bought him a ticket to come live there. After seeing Jerry Jeff Walker in a local bar\, Snider decided that he didn’t need a band to be a musician. \nAfter moving to Memphis\, Tennessee\, in the mid-1980s and establishing residency at a club named the Daily Planet\, he was discovered by Keith Sykes\, a member of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band. A longtime acquaintance of John Prine and Walker\, Sykes began to work with Snider to help advance his career. Prine hired him as an assistant and then invited him to open shows. In time\, Buffett heard Snider’s demo tapes and signed him to his own label. On his music\, Snider has said “I was just trying to come up with the best … most open hearted … well-thought-out lyrics I could come up with. I wanted every song to be sad and funny at the same time\, vulnerable and entertaining at the same time\, personal and universal at the same time. I wanted every song to be as uniquely written as possible and then I wanted to perform them in a studio loose and rugged and hopefully as uniquely as I could. My hope is to be hard to describe and/or new … I’m not saying I am. I’m just saying that’s the hope.” \nSnider’s 1994 debut album on MCA\, entitled Songs for the Daily Planet\, was named for the bar where Snider used to play regularly in Memphis. On that album were the minor hits “Talkin’ Seattle Grunge Rock Blues”—a folk song about the early ’90s grunge scene\, featuring a band that “refused to play” —and “Alright Guy”\, which later became the title cut of Gary Allan’s 2001 album. \nHe released two more albums for MCA\, Step Right Up and Viva Satellite before moving to John Prine’s Oh Boy Records\, for which he made Happy to Be Here\, New Connection\, Near Truths and Hotel Rooms\, East Nashville Skyline\, and Peace Love and Anarchy. That Was Me: The Best of Todd Snider 1994–1998 was released by Hip-O Records in August 2005. \nSnider’s next studio album\, The Devil You Know\, was released in August 2006. It marked his return to a major label\, New Door Records\, a subsidiary of Universal Records. The Devil You Know was named to several critics’ year-end “best” lists\, including a number 33 ranking in Rolling Stone magazine’s top 50 albums of the year\, a number 25 ranking by No Depression magazine\, and number 14 by Blender magazine. \nSnider’s album Peace Queer was released on October 14\, 2008\, and reached number 1 on the Americana Airplay Chart on October 27\, 2008. His album The Excitement Plan\, produced by Don Was\, was released on June 9\, 2009\, on the YepRoc label. \nSnider contributed a cover version of “A Boy Named Sue” to the 2010 Sugar Hill Records album Twistable Turnable Man\, a tribute by various artists to the songwriter Shel Silverstein. \nSnider’s songs “Late Last Night” and “I Believe You” have been recorded by the Oklahoma red dirt band Cross Canadian Ragweed. He co-wrote the song “Barbie Doll” with the country star Jack Ingram. \nSnider worked with Adult Swim to perform the “Fatal Distraction” variant of the Squidbillies theme song and part of “Listen to the Animals”. He also guest-starred\, along with voice-over announcer Andrew Montesi and The Regular Guys radio DJ Larry Wachs\, in the series\, voicing a lobster. \nIn February 2011\, Snider released a double-disc live album\, The Storyteller\, on his own record label\, Aimless Records. The album features live versions of songs spanning much of Snider’s career along with some of the stories that have become a staple of his live show. \nIn April 2012\, Snider released two albums\, Agnostic Hymns & Stoner Fables and a tribute album\, Time As We Know It: The Songs of Jerry Jeff Walker. The latter album is an homage to country singer-songwriter Jerry Jeff Walker. American Songwriter claims\, “Snider has been carrying on Walker’s scraggly Texas-styled country/Americana tradition since he started.” \nThe album Agnostic Hymns & Stoner Fables was listed at number 47 on Rolling Stone’s list of the top 50 albums of 2012\, saying\, “One of the sharpest\, funniest storytellers in rock\, Snider keeps the indictments coming.” \nOn December 20\, 2013\, Snider debuted a new band called Hard Working Americans at a benefit concert at the Boulder Theater in Boulder\, Colorado\, for Colorado Flood Relief. The band’s first album is a collection of lesser-known cover songs\, to be released January 2014. Snider said in an interview that he chose some of the covers because they were melodic and “I wanted it to be very melodic. I’m hoping to learn about that in this process.” The group includes bassist Dave Schools (of Widespread Panic)\, guitarist Neal Casal\, keyboard player Chad Staehly and drummer Duane Trucks. The band also released a cover of “Come From the Heart” with Roseanne Cash\, made available on iTunes in September 2014. Their second record\, Rest in Chaos\, was released in May 2016\, and unlike the previous album\, features mostly original songs written by the band\, including lyrics by Snider. \nIn February 2019\, Snider released “Like A Force Of Nature” from his Cash Cabin Sessions\, Vol 3 album\, released the following month. \nSnider has been touring for close to thirty years and will continue to make the road his home for the foreseeable future with another live album forthcoming in 2022. \n \nDoors: 7pm / Show: 8pm \nOpening Act: Gregg Hall \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: https://toddsnider.net/ \nGenre: Singer-songwriter \n \nThe Redstone Room is a general admission venue\, this is an all-seated show but seating in done first come\, first served \n \nRIVER MUSIC EXPERIENCE POLICES: \n*Ticket Disclaimer* \nAll tickets for RME events are sold via Eventbrite and carry applicable transaction fees. SUMMARY:NOLA Jazz Band
DESCRIPTION:Bix Museum\, Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society\, and River Music Experience present NOLA Jazz Band!\n\n\nSupport provided by the Iowa Arts Council\, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs\, and the National Endowment for the Arts. \nFrom their debut in The Basement of The Des Moines Social Club in March 2015\, the NOLA Jazz Band has been in demand across the greater Midwest. They have also played numerous festivals across Iowa and the Midwest\, and are highly sought after for larger private events in the Des Moines area. The band also continues to build their reputation regionally and across the U.S. \nBand members have shared the stage with jazz greats and have been inducted into the Iowa Jazz and Rock & Roll Halls of Fame. They have also played at well-known Jazz clubs such as Spotted Cat in New Orleans and the Iridium and Smalls in New York City. Recent musical groups and artists the band has played with include: \n Davina & the Vagabonds (Minneapolis) \n Bria Skonberg – rising star jazz trumpet player and singer (New York City) \n Marla Dixon and The Shotgun Jazz Band (New Orleans) \n Dom Flemons – bluegrass/roots/Americana artist\, formerly of the Carolina Chocolate Drops \nAll band members have a common love for the “feel” of both traditional and current New Orleans based music – real\, gutsy\, raw\, heartfelt\, and entertaining. The band truly enjoys playing this fun music together and sees their audiences as part of their “family living room experience” for each performance. \nThe NOLA Jazz Band loves to expose audiences to this traditional jazz music\, its history\, and emotion. One of the best compliments we’ve received from a number of audience members is “I don’t find myself liking jazz – however I LOVE whatever it is that you play!” Yes we’ve actually heard that same quote many times and it warms our hearts to know people truly enjoy our playing. Just as traditional jazz was built on collaboration and diversity so is our band. The eight members of the band are represented by five generations ranging from their early 20s to mid-60s – each with their own unique experiences and musical talents. \nThe Band released their first album in March\, 2016 – NOLA Jazz Band Vol. 1 “Genesis – Live from the ARK”. CD’s are available at shows\, online at iTunes and CD Baby as well as streaming on Spotify. Their second CD “NOLA Jazz Band – Fat Tuesday LIVE” will be coming out in fall 2018. \n \nDoors: 6pm / Show: 7pm \nOpening Act: None \nAge Restriction: All Ages \nWeb: https://www.nolajazzband.org/ \nGenre: Jazz \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:Wishbone Ash | Redstone Room
DESCRIPTION:Wishbone Ash celebrates a half-century of live twin-lead guitar power in 2020.\n\n\nDoors: 7pm / Show: 7:30pm \nAge Restriction: All Ages \nWeb: wishboneash.com \nGenre: Rock \n \nAll tickets are general admission. Purchasing a ticket does not guarantee a seat. \n \nThis is the third and final time the East Coast/Midwest U.S. tour leg has been scheduled – and it is happily happening 23 February thru 27 March of 2022. Needless to say\, the Band and the Fans are overjoyed to get back together and jam! The third time’s a charm\, as the saying goes. \n“Thankfully\, before Covid-19 shut live music down around the world\, we did manage to celebrate our 50th anniversary by touring Europe and other territories in support of our new album\, Coat of Arms\,” says Andy Powell. “The USA Midwest and East Coast was not quite so lucky\, missing out on the party. So we’ll be resuming the celebration under the banner “Late to the Party” for our friends and fans who missed out due to the pandemic.” \nThis is the longest gap in gigs for the band since the founding in 1969. For example in just the last few years in addition to the U.S.A. and Canada\, countries like Germany and France have been visited in Europe\, the UK of course\, plus Japan and South Africa. Each year\, approximately 30\,000 actual road miles are racked up\, plus countless flights taking the band’s special brand of twin lead guitar based rock around the planet. \n“Everyone by now knows that Wishbone Ash is one of the hardest working bands in rock today and so it really was a major blow\, to be wrenched out of our comfort zone – being on tour. A lot of personal\, financial and physical adjustment was needed in taking this forced hiatus\, for all of us\, but we kept ourselves busy. I’ve been working my gear and working on songs. I also started my online patreon.com/andypowell site where I dispense road stories\, guitar tips and songwriting insights. This kind of thing has kept us focused and creative individually\, but there’s nothing quite like a life on the road\, especially if you’ve been living that way for 50 years!” \nTheir last concert was at the Triple Door in Seattle on Friday the 13th of 2020. “I looked like a hermetically sealed passenger when I boarded for home\,” Powell says. We were getting intel from the authorities as we rounded the corner up California\, the virus seemed to be on our heels.” \n“After that\, the whole world seemed to shut down and we had to make some major adjustments. We miss all our friends and fans around the U.S. and the World\, in fact\, and the camaraderie and support that brings “ \nLooking back at a half century of music in general\, The Beatles\, The Blues Boom and Psychedelia had made their impact on Classic Rock and the creative possibilities were infinite. Pioneering the use of twin lead guitars\, Wishbone Ash hit the road in 1970\, opening for Deep Purple. Andy Powell jumped up with Ritchie Blackmore at soundcheck and Ritchie loved it and recommended them to MCA which led to their first\, self-titled album later that year. The band quickly began headlining in arenas\, stadiums and festivals throughout the world. Taking full advantage of the fertile musical environment\, they produced a distinctive brand of melodic rock\, readily apparent on such hits as “Blowin’ Free\, “Time Was” “The King Will Come” “Helpless”\, “Runaway” and many more. Power and melody have made the Ash a hard act to follow\, while they are currently being discovered by new generations of loyal rock fans. \nInspired equally by British folk traditions\, American jazz and R&B\, the group played to public and critical acclaim. Celebrating 50 continuous years of touring – up until the pandemic\, Wishbone Ash\, the quintessential road band\, has gained worldwide recognition\, based firmly on a regime of relentless touring and recording which has fed and grown their rabid following. \nThe band includes founding member Andy Powell\, who handles lead vocals and trades licks with Yorkshire’s Mark Abrahams. Bassist Bob Skeat\, a 20-year veteran of the band\, keeps the bottom rocking with Joe Crabtree\, one of the best of Britain’s new breed of drummers whose performance credits include Pendragon and David Cross of King Crimson. \nNow with Coat of Arms\, their 25th studio album release (and their 100th unique release through their history)\, Wishbone Ash continues to prove they are not a band to rest in the past. Wishbone’s third album\, Argus (1972)\, was named The Best British Album of the Year by Melody Maker and considered to be one of the all-time classic rock albums\, together with Pilgrimage (1971) and New England (1976). More recently\, The Power of Eternity (2007)\, Elegant Stealth (2011) and Blue Horizon (2014) have each garnered enthusiastic praise. The band’s biggest seller\, Live Dates (1973)\, is one of the highly rated live albums of the 1970s. The latest musical project is Wishbone Ash: The Vintage Years (Snapper Music)\, a 32-CD deluxe box set spanning the years 1969 to 1991\, featuring a coffee table book\, posters\, floppy discs\, rare photos and more. \nThe constant of Wishbone Ash has been Andy Powell\, voted into the Ten Most Important Guitarists in Rock History (Traffic magazine\, 1989) and the Top 20 Guitarists Of All Time (Rolling Stone). Through the years\, he has been featured in notable publications\, including Guitar Player\, Vintage Guitar and Guitarist\, and has appeared at the Guitar Institute in Los Angeles. In 2015\, he released his musical memoir\, Eyes Wide Open: True Tales of a Wishbone Ash Warrior (co-written with Colin Harper\, Jawbone Press) which offers an inside track of five decades of life on the road and in the studio. \nThe excitement palpable to get back on the open road\, celebrating 50 continuous years at 52. \n \nRIVER MUSIC EXPERIENCE POLICES: \n*Ticket Disclaimer* \nAll tickets for RME events are sold via Eventbrite and carry applicable transaction fees. SUMMARY:Chicago Farmer & The Field Notes with special guests River Valley Rangers
DESCRIPTION:Chicago Farmer & The Field Notes are at the River Music Experience on March 3rd with special guests River Valley Rangers!\n\n\nThe son of a small-town farming community\, Cody Diekhoff logged plenty of highway and stage time under the name Chicago Farmer before settling in the city in 2003. Profoundly inspired by fellow Midwesterner John Prine\, he’s a working-class folk musician to his core. His small-town roots\, tilled with city streets mentality\, are turning heads North and South of I-80. \n“I love the energy\, music\, and creativity of Chicago\, but at the same time\, the roots and hard work of my small town\,” he shares. Growing up in Delavan\, Illinois\, with a population less than 2\,000\, Diekhoff’s grandparents were farmers\, and their values have always provided the baseline of his songs. \nHe writes music for “the kind of people that come to my shows. Whether in Chicago or Delavan\, everyone has a story\, and everyone puts in a long day and works hard the same way\,” he says. “My generation may have been labeled as slackers\, but I don’t know anyone who doesn’t work hard – many people I know put in 50-60 hours a week and 12-hour days. That’s what keeps me playing. I don’t like anyone to be left out; my music is for everyone in big and very small towns.” \nHe listened to punk rock and grunge as a kid before discovering a friend’s dad playing Hank Williams\, and it was a revelation. Prine and Guthrie quickly followed. The name Chicago Farmer was originally for a band\, but the utilitarian life of driving alone from bar to bar\, city to city – to make a direct connection to his audience and listener\, took a deeper hold. \n“You can smell the dirt in the fields\, hear the wind as it blows across the plains\, and see the people that Chicago Farmer sings about. Each track captures a moment in time\, whether for a person or a particular place. Imagine if a John Steinbeck short story had been written as a song\, and this will give you a fairly good idea as to what Chicago Farmer accomplishes on his albums.” \n— HONEST TUNE \n_________________________ \nRolling plains\, crackling campfires\, and late night string sessions are just some of the scenes that float into one’s mind when absorbing one of Midwestern quartet River Valley Rangers’ forthright compositions. Throughout their 5 year tenure\, the group has remained a steadfast contributor to the “newgrass” genre through their inventive\, free-flowing flatpicking styles and arrangements\, all the while paying omnipresent homage to the pioneers of the conventional bluegrass style. While the traditional instrumentation of their songs resounds with familiarity\, the techniques they employ––rhythmic changes\, melodic sequences\, breakdowns\, improvised jamming––yield an ever-evolving sonic landscape\, rippled with nods to more orthodox offerings from within the realm. \nThe Rangers\, comprised of Mark Messer (mandolin\, vocals)\, Jesse Beilfuss (upright bass\, vocals)\, Daniel Watkins (guitar\, vocals)\, and Ben Zorn (fiddle\, vocals)\, followed unique paths into the world of music-making\, yet each exhibit an aptitude for harmonizing\, songwriting\, and audience interplay. They also share a willingness to experiment: one may find an array of heterogeneous tunes in any given live set\, be it a jaunty number about the simplicities of rural living\, an old-time standard\, or a crowd-stirring alt rock cover––the band leans into musical diversity. This characteristic is the hallmark of a repertoire that runs deep and varied\, much like the colorful river beds that etch themselves into the prairies of the group’s Illinois home. \nListing influences spanning Tony Rice to Phish\, thoughtful notations rip through Rangers jams\, creating a dynamic sound tunnel which eagerly sweeps listeners into an experience that is both entertaining and confounding\, underpinned by lightning-fast\, ever-tight string maneuvering. As the River Valley Rangers continue to traverse the U.S. throughout Summer 2021\, their uplifting tunes in tow\, they will channel the experiences that the road’s boundless nature bestows upon them into their forthcoming EP\, due out later this year. Boasting appearances with artists such as Jeremy Garrett of the Grammy award-winning The Infamous Stringdusters\, Grammy award-winning The Travelin’ McCourys\, and Grammy-nominated and IBMA winners Special Consensus\, they continue to draw upon their peers\, and the pickin’ parties they treasure hosting together\, for the constant evolution and honing of their craft. \n \nDoors: 7pm / Show: 8pm \nOpening Act: River Valley Rangers \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: https://chicagofarmer.com | www.rivervalleyrangers.com \nGenre: Americana \n \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:Martin Sexton w/ Chris Trapper | Redstone Room
DESCRIPTION:Martin Sexton in the Redstone Room\, March 2!\n\n\nDoors: 6:30pm / Show: 7:30pm \nOpening Act: Chris Trapper \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: http://martinsexton.com/ \nGenre: Americana Singer/Songwriter \n \n \nAll tickets are general admission. Purchasing a ticket does not guarantee a seat. \n \nSinger-songwriter Martin Sexton is like an ultra-active antenna\, adventuring through the static to grab a clear signal. When he dials in on one station\, he then quickly shifts to the next one. This everchanging attention span drives his family crazy\, but it’s ingrained in Martin\, dating back to his childhood when he would tear through television primetime programming. \n \nThis ability to hone in on little defining moments suits Martin as a songwriter as evident by his latest EP\, 2020 Vision. This is Martin’s first release in 6 years\, and it is a poetically emotive and an elegantly evocative pandemic scrapbook. “In one song\, I’m building a treehouse with my son. In another song\, I’m crossing America and seeing the beauty in people rising through adversity and loving each other\,” Martin details. \n \nThe recordings were tracked virtually during lockdown and produced by three-time Grammy-nominee John Alagia\, best known for producing John Mayer’s breakout album\, Room For Squares. Mayer\, who has always championed Martin as a foundational influence\, makes a special guitar solo cameo on one of the EP’s singles\, “Calling on America.” This 4-song collection will be available on the digital platforms\, and also issued as a handsomely-packaged vinyl release. \n \nMartin’s ever-shifting focus also manifests itself in his freewheeling musicality. He nurtured a critically-acclaimed trademark aesthetic through embracing soul\, folk\, blues\, rock\, pop\, and sweet balladry. His last album\, 2015’s Mixtape of the Open Road\, garnered raves from the Wall Street Journal\, Billboard\, Folk Alley/NPR Music\, and Relix Magazine. \n \nOne constant in Martin’s life and his music is celebrating America. His 1996 Black Sheep album featured a rendition of “America The Beautiful\,” and his major-label debut was simply called The American. Also\, Martin getting his start in music through leaving his upstate New York hometown with seventy-five bucks and a Stratocaster to chase his aspirations brims with anthemic American Dream overtones. 2020 Vision continues this American story. \n \n“I see America as flawed\, but not irredeemable. I love that we have community leaders\, politicians\, actors\, and artists from all backgrounds speaking up\, raising their voices\, and becoming the heroes of today\,” Martin says. “My faith is renewed to see the injustices of the world now beginning to be met with accountability. I remain hopeful and optimistic.” \n2020 Vision snapshots moment of clarity during the pandemic and beyond. The EP’s leadoff single\, “Hold On\,” is one of those sun-shining-through-the-rain songs. It brims with soul guitar fixings\, punchy horns\, and a touching narrative of the simple pleasures of spending time with loved ones. “The silver lining in the pandemic was more facetime with my family. We cut each other’s hair\, we biked\, and I got around to finally building that treehouse with my son\,” Martin recalls. “We finished building it on a sunny summer day\, and I grabbed my old Gibson and sat down inside the new fort and this tune presented itself to me.” \nThe EP’s second single\, “Calling On America\,” follows in the grand tradition of tender R&B cultural commentary epitomized by soul poets like Curtis Mayfield’s and Marvin Gaye. It’s a scene-setting song panning through visual vignettes of love and harmony while also contemplating division. “I see too much division and hate projected on the airwaves\,” Martin shares. “Because of what I do\, I travel and meet folks in the world\, and although it’s far less common than it should be\, I find it encouraging to see people of all walks of life getting along. I believe solidarity through music is a very powerful thing and I’ve always strived to advocate that through my songs and my shows.” The song’s purposeful messaging goes down smooth with folksy acoustic guitar\, gospel-tinged organ playing\, pining pedal steel\, and Martin’s trademark honeyed vocals. “Calling On America” is further enhanced by a John Mayer guitar solo\, a lyrical but fleet-fingered statement that hits that sweet spot between blues and country. The EP is rounded out by the impressionistic folk song\, “Riding Through The Rain\,” and the James Taylor-esque\, “Penny from the Land of Plenty\,” a powerful and hopeful statement on the opioid epidemic. \n \nUp next\, the road is calling Martin as tour dates are being booked in this post-vaccine chapter. 2020 Vision will always have its lessons and remain in Martin’s sight\, even as the miles out on the road put pandemic life in the rearview mirror. One of those lessons is the power of togetherness. Martin says: “My mission statement for the past 15 years has been unity through music\, and I am committed to sharing peace and harmony through my songs.” \n \nRIVER MUSIC EXPERIENCE POLICES: \n \n \n*Ticket Disclaimer* \n \nAll tickets for RME events are sold via Eventbrite and carry applicable transaction fees. SUMMARY:Anthony Gomes w/ Vinyl
DESCRIPTION:#1 Billboard Blues Artist\, Anthony Gomes\, returns to the Redstone Room February 25th!\n\n\n“Gomes’ authentic voice and the formidable guitar chops place him in the forefront of modern blues.” \n– Blues Music Magazine \nAnthony Gomes\, #1 Billboard Blues Artist\, is a triple threat force as a guitarist\, vocalist and songwriter. This\, along with his high-energy shows and dynamic stage presence\, make him one of the top draws on the Rock/Blues circuit today. \nGomes’ new record Containment Blues\, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart\, is the culmination of a life spent honoring Blues traditions while never losing sight of his own identity. The Toronto born guitar slinger stands his ground as a creative artist and is eager to push the Blues back into the mainstream. \n“My goal is to keep the Blues fresh\, exciting and even dangerous\,” says Gomes. “I want to bring back the thrill longtime Bluesmen created in their day. At the same time\, I think it’s very important for the music to grow and evolve. \n”He has performed with the likes of B.B. King\, Buddy Guy\, Robert Plant\, Heart\, Sammy Hagar\, .38 Special\, Jonny Lang\, Robert Cray and Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Gomes recalled a conversation he had years ago with one of those legends. “B.B. King told me the Blues are like the laws of the land. They need to be amended to the times we live in\,” Gomes said. “As an artist\, it’s very exciting to think that the Blues can be just as ground-breaking today as it ever was. \n“Believing that music can inspire the human spirit\, Anthony founded the Music Is the Medicine Foundation in 2010. This non-profit organization is dedicated to changing the lives of others through the healing power of music. \nAnthony Gomes has nothing left to prove while leaving all his passion on the table. Nonetheless\, he continues striving to not only find the legendary “lost chord\,” but the ultimate combinations of words\, notes and performance. Looking for an actual 21st Century guitar hero? Here he is. \n \nDoors: 7pm / Show: 8pm \nOpening Act: Vinyl \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: www.anthonygomes.com \nGenre: Blues Rock \n \nAll tickets are general admission. I grew up around musicians in the church and community where my love for music grew. I started out going to blues and rock camps locally which is what helped and shaped me into the musician I am today. From the camps came many opportunities for me to perform around my hometown. From my experience being able to play with other musicians I was able to gain much knowledge. The highlight of my career has been being able to perform on the voice stage!! it was an unforgettable moment I’ll never forget and am very honored to stand on any stage where my music takes me. \nJ Wolfskill \nOut of the banks of the Mississippi river\, J. Mackenzie Wolfskill emerged in 2021 as a heartfelt singer & songwriter focused on sonically capturing the human experience. His music is progressively changing yet\, strong influences have held throughout his music often rooted in african desert blues\, psychedelic jam rock\, & americana/indie folk rock. “I enjoy creating with others and feeling as present as I can be\, embodying the emotions I play\, and getting lost with others in the sonic space\, I let the music create itself & it’s different everytime”. \nAlexa Mueller \nAlexa is a singer-songwriter from Hampton\, IL whose hard work and powerful vocals have earned her a solid place among her adult peers. Drawing influence from a blend of blues\, country\, and classic rock\, she performs as a soloist/guitarist at a variety of venues around the Quad-Cities\, & also serves as the front man for QC Vinyl Rock-n-Blues Band. Her vocals have been featured at BB King’s in Memphis\, as well as through the prestigious Fernando Jones summer Blues program at Columbia College in Chicago where she sang at sites such as Reggie’s Rock Club & Navy Pier. SUMMARY:Them Coulee Boys\, Still Shine\, and Spencer Eli Praught
DESCRIPTION:Them Coulee Boys\, Still Shine\, and Spencer Eli Praught in the Redstone Room February 5th!\n\n\nThem Coulee Boys craft a brand of Americana that blends folk\, punk\, bluegrass\, and rock & roll. They sing their conversational songs in 4 part harmony\, often with a banjo stomp and rhythm section punch that drives the audience onto the dance floor and into community. Their trusty van has propelled them thousands of miles across the country and into the hearts of strangers\, who tend to leave each show as family. It’s music that creates community through the shared experience of joy and giving a shit. \nThe story is true. Soren Staff and Beau Janke met as counselors at a bible camp in northern Wisconsin in 2011. Having both grown up amidst a stretch of glacial melt-carved river valleys in the upper Midwest (called coulees by French fur trappers)\, they were fast friends. At camp\, another counselor took to teasing them saying “them coulee boys are at it again.” The name stuck. Spending their weeks playing songs with kids around a campfire led to weekends figuring out an Avett Brothers tune or classic country song. In 2013\, they added Soren’s brother Jens on mandolin\, and a rough-around-the-edges\, stomping 3-piece folk band played their first show as Them Coulee Boys. Four years later Neil Krause joined to play acoustic and electric bass\, and in 2019 when Stas Hable joined on drums\, TCB evolved into the full-on americana rock band they are today. The live band straddles the line between pure and genuine ballads and a sweaty\, leaping take on countrified rock-n-roll. \nWith three full length albums and an EP behind them\, including 2019’s Die Happy (produced by Trampled By Turtles’ Dave Simonett on Lo-Hi Records)\, the band has garnered international attention and earned press in American Songwriter and The Bluegrass Situation\, as well as tours with TBT and a spot on the songwriter’s Cayamo Cruise. In 2020\, they were named Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Band to Watch\, and were nominated for band of the year by the Wisconsin Area Music Industry. When the world stopped in early 2020\, the band holed up in their practice space and began writing\, and the result is their brand new effort entitled Namesake. \nNamesake was recorded at The Hive in the band’s hometown of Eau Claire\, WI\, a small Wisconsin city infamously blessed with a wealth of musical talent. The record was produced by Grammy-winner Brian Joseph\, who has worked with the likes of Paul Simon\, Sufjan Stevens\, Ani Difranco\, The Indigo Girls\, and earned his Grammy producing and engineering Bon Iver’s Bon Iver. The Hive itself is an intimate room\, with ceilings draped with nautical rope\, and bookshelves adorned with all manner of things antiquarian\, living and dead. Joseph’s fingerprints are everywhere on the record\, and the warm feel of home left the band trusting further expansion of their sound. The result is a record that is equal parts bear hug\, gut punch\, and a steadying hand. \nTaking inspiration from the intimate nature of the space after a long period of quarantine\, Namesake feels familial\, like old friends with no need for small talk. There are moments of power and punch\, balanced with an intimacy only felt between the ones we love. The banjo stomp that personifies TCB is still there on the title track “Namesake”\, but now it’s paired with the raw power of electric guitar\, mandolin\, and banjo on “Phil’s Song” and “1st Team All-American”. The mood is dialed way back for “Hallelujah” and “4/1”\, to let the lyrics shine. There’s a nod to Petty and Springsteen in the expanse of “Given Up”\, and a Dylanesque troubadour’s longing behind the sweet tale of “Knuckleballer”. \nNamesake is Them Coulee Boys following a new trajectory\, combining their take on a punched up version of folk-grass/americana with a comfort in electric instruments and rock & roll. The record lives and breathes\, is both intimate and bombastic. It’s your sweet aunt who makes delicious pies and your wiley uncle not afraid to hit a bit of the hooch. At bottom is the acceptance that comes with family and old friends: none of us are perfect\, but there’s enough love out there to make up for it. \n_____________________ \nFormed in the summer of 2014\, Still Shine is a group of like-minded\, seasoned musicians blending acoustic roots and progressive bluegrass. Mixing mandolin\, harmonica\, banjo\, acoustic guitar\, upright bass\, and tight harmonies they quickly gained a following around Central Illinois area and the local Midwest. They have shared the stage with artists such as Billy Strings\, Railroad Earth\, The Leadfoot Band\, Split Lip Rayfield\, Horseshoes and Hand Grenades\, Kitchen Dwellers\, Larry Keel\, Chicago Farmer\, Old Shoe and the Way Down Wanderers just to name a few. Along with some well received original music\, the band performs an upbeat\, energetic show you won’t want to miss! \n \nDoors: 7pm / Show: 8pm \nOpening Act: Spencer Eli Praught \nAge Restriction: 19+ (minors must be accompanied by parent or guardian) \nWeb: https://www.themcouleeboys.com/ | www.stillshinegrass.com \nGenre: Bluegrass \n \nAll tickets are general admission. SUMMARY:All Sweat Original Series: Randy Leasman\, Erin Moore\, John Born
DESCRIPTION:An All Sweat Original Concert featuring Randy Leasman\, Erin Moore\, and John Born.\n\n\nThe All Sweat Original Series is a curated event to showcase Quad City artists in a way you’ve never seen them before. Unlike a standard concert this is an intimate moment for you to truly connect with these musicians and their art. Local songwriters are paired up with top notch QC musicians to act as their own personal backing band\, complete with all the fun and community that the Quad Cities as come to know as an All Sweat Productions show. \nThis month’s songwriters are: \nRandy Leasman \nRandy Leasman was born in Davenport IA. The singer/songwriter grew up in the Quad Cities absorbing the sounds all around him. From Catholic hymns at grade school mass to the latin rhythms of Chicago bands hired to play local weddings and quinceañeras. MTV\, Classic Rock radio and the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival were also crucial in Randy’s musical development. Besides being a solo artist\, Randy has also performed\, written and recorded with many groups over the years including the Candymakers\, the Low Down\, Zach Harris Band\, and currently the Avey Grouws Band. He is an instructor at Kidstock and the Ellis Kell Winter Blues Camp at the River Music Experience as well. Randy released his latest album Forever Loving Living Fantasy in November of 2021. \nErin Moore \nBack when RIBCO and Rascals were just about the only venues in the Quad Cities that started with the letter ‘R’\, a 16-year-old Erin Moore was sneaking into Hunter’s Club\, Big Papa’s Palace\, Stickmans\, The Wagon Wheel\, and Stub’s Eddy to experience live music. This OG from the QC first cut her teeth battling her stage-fright at open mics at Blackthorn Pub\, 11th Street Precinct\, Stacys\, and Bierstube in the Village of East Davenport. Meanwhile\, the River Music Experience\, Rozz Tox\, Rust Belt\, Renwick Hotel\, and Racoon Motel popped up\, effervescently\, adding fuel to a growing fire. Erin is grateful to witness the widening and deepening of our rich music tradition. It’s remarkable that the music community in the Quad Cities has always been raging — right-in-time with the mighty Mississippi River\, sometimes beyond its banks. \nErin has been writing\, relentlessly\, for as long as she remembers\, as a way to make sense of what it means to be human. She has recorded original music projects with BEEs\, The Candymakers\, and Busted Chandeliers. Stream BEEs EP “Shady Lady” on QCBeats and discover a new local artist on the growing list of contributors. If it isn’t obvious\, Erin is pretty elated to be integrating herself back into society in 2022\, in the midst of what felt like a bizarre time-warp\, with an extensive mask collection and a tiny human to nurture. Currently\, she pays the bills being a librarian but dreams of how lovely it would be to open another music venue and name it something righteous\, definitely beginning with the letter ‘R’. \nJohn Born \nJohn was born in Davenport\, but raised in small town IL. Concentrating mostly on sports\, and art\, he didn’t pick up the guitar until the end of his senior year. Drawing mostly from\, grunge\, alternative\, metal\, punk\, and of course the regional country music of his youth\, he immediately started to write songs of his own. While many songs reflect familiar themes of chasing girls\, and late night hell raising\, others lean towards his love of history and film. “I want to write rock songs that sound like where I’m from\, what I believe\, and what I love.” \n \nDoors: 6:30pm / Show: 7pm \n \nAll tickets are general admission. Purchasing a ticket does not guarantee a seat. \n \nRIVER MUSIC EXPERIENCE POLICES: \n*Ticket Disclaimer* \nAll tickets for RME events are sold via Eventbrite and carry applicable transaction fees.
